Customer Service

THE PROCESS:
Trained staff will answer your questions immediately or begin a process to accommodate your needs.

After a few questions, a Council on Aging Customer Service representative may direct you to another appropriate agency or they may refer you to a Council On Aging Case Manager or Nurse who will meet with you in your home to determine the most appropriate form of action.

FEE FOR SERVICE:
Those who can pay will be served immediately since there are very few restrictions.  Any gains from fee for service are used by COA to help reduce the need to raise additional funds for grant services.

GRANT SERVICES:

Information will be submitted and evaluated by a State system to determine eligibility for grant services. The majority of grant services require individuals to be 60 years of age or older.  Some services, such as Medicare, require the client to be homebound.  Certain services require a modest co-payment, which is based on income. If a client is unable to pay, a waiver system may be available. Some services do not require any fee; however, donations are encouraged because many clients are able to contribute. Co-payments and donations help us to defray the cost of grant services.  Since funds are limited there is often time a waiting list, with the exception of Home Health.

Grant services are partially funded by the State of Florida and/or Federal programs. Program participants must be 60 years of age or older and meet functional impairment levels to quality.

Services available under this program are solely dependent upon adequate funding from the State and Federal government. Due to the growing number of individuals in Volusia County over the age of 60 needing assistance, long waiting lists are not uncommon.

Council on Aging of Volusia County is a private not-for-profit agency partially funded by the State of Florida Department of Elder Affairs with funds provided by the Community Care for the Elderly and the Older American's Act being administered by the Area Agency on Aging; ElderSource, the State of Florida Department of Children & Families, and some support from the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties  and the County of Volusia. Council on Aging of Volusia County is a Registered 501 (c)(3) Corporation.
