Walk for Meals on Wheels
and Other Senior Services
In 1997, Council on
Aging of Volusia County established an annual fundraiser, Walk for Meals on Wheels, to support nutrition services; in the past few
years it has been expanded to include other grant funded services.
All funds generated are used to meet a portion of the local match
requirement of the Federal and State grants.
The following is a story as related by a Meals on Wheels volunteer drive:
"He opened the door and his wide smile greeted me. His white wavy hair was combed so proper, his clothes neat and clean and he was wearing a tie. The Meals on Wheels volunteer remarked how nice he appeared and asked why he was so dressed up. He looked up at the volunteer and with warm eyes said, "I dress to receive my meal and your visit, you are all so kind." The volunteer realized at that moment what the Meals on Wheels program truly means to the homebound elderly in our community.
Meals on Wheels is just one of the many services provided by the Council on Aging. The Council on Aging needs your help by sponsoring its annual fundraisers to help provide meals and other services to seniors in our communities.
