Adopt-A-Route Meals on Wheels Program

Meals on Wheels - (MOW) - Grants

Meals on Wheels are provided to homebound seniors over the age of 60. The meals are from a varied menu and provide one third of the daily nutritional requirements, with no added salt, butter, seasons  or sugar. A hot meal is delivered by volunteers Monday through Friday between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Frozen meals for weekend consumption can be provided based on individual need. This program has no set fee, but graciously accepts donations.

Homer Gere, father of Actor and Humanitarian Richard Gere, is a Meals on Wheels Volunteer Driver.

Please join us in our efforts to bring a hot meal, a warm smile and necessary care services to the frail homebound seniors in our community.

Four simple steps:

1.  Contact Council on Aging to schedule a presentation for your business or organization by calling 386-253-4700 ext. 208 or ext. 216.

2.
Choose an available route in or near your neighborhood, business, or civic organization. If you prefer, we can help you choose the route most in need of volunteer drivers.

3.  Form a pool of volunteers to deliver the meals at lunchtime. Delivery starts at 10:30 am. We have found this venture works better with teams of two people.

4. Training will be provided by Council on Aging.

Adopting-A-Route helps promote a team spirit for companies whose cultures emphasize the importance of philanthropy and community outreach. Adoptive organizations receive a framed Certificate of Adoption and Appreciation for their business or organization and recognition in the Counsel Newsletter that is sent to over 13,000 Volusia County residents, businesses and organizations.
